The unappealable victory of donald trump in the last US elections mates have fallen like a jug of cold water on the supporters and voters of the Democratic Party, who cannot believe that they are going to witness four years of the Republican leader’s mandate.
For this reason, some are already considering drastic measures such as emigrating. As published by Daily MailGoogle searches for “move to Canada” increased by 1270% in the 24 hours after polls closed on the US East Coast on Tuesday, company data shows.
Similar searches about moving to New Zealand increased by almost 2000%while those in Australia increased by 820%.
Late Wednesday night on the East Coast of the United States, Google searches for emigration reached all-time highs for all three countries, according to a Google employee.
The search giant does not provide absolute figures, but website data Immigration New Zealand showed that the site registered some 25,000 new users Americans on Nov. 7, compared to 1,500 on the same day last year.
Immigration lawyers are also receiving an increase in requests: “Every half hour there is a new email query”said Evan Green, managing partner of Canada’s oldest immigration law firm, Green and Spiegel.
Some stakeholders say they feared for their country, their safety or both after Trump’s election. Even before the election, those fears were increasingly cited by Americans looking to immigrate to Canada, according to Heather Bell, Immigration consultant at Bell Alliance law firm in Vancouver. However, few manage to pull it off, Bell said.
“Immigrating to Canada is not easyespecially now that the government is reducing the number of temporary and permanent immigrants coming to the country,” he says.
