The operation began at Palma airport with the seizure of a large number of historical objects that were going to be illegally removed from the country.
The Civil Guard has recovered more than 1,000 archaeological pieces belonging to the Spanish Historical Heritage and it is believed that, in large part, they could have been plundered in the waters of Mallorca.
According to Benemérita in a note, the operation began after the intervention of a large number of historical objects at Palma airportwhen they were going to be taken out of the country illegally.
As a result of this discovery, the Nature Protection Service (Seprona), within the powers attributed to it in this type of crimes, began an investigation that resulted in the recovery of more than a thousand pieces, among which there are numerous coins, amphorae, ointments, lamps, vessels, jewelry, figures and swordsamong others.
In the absence of a more detailed definitive report, it is estimated that all this heritage would have a priceless value.
The archaeological material will be delivered by the Civil Guard to the Historical Heritage service, for study and cataloguing, but its final destination is to be returned to the citizens of the Balearic Islands and to be displayed in the Museum of Mallorca.
