‘Público’ offers an exclusive video of ‘The Last Romantics’

Irune works in a paper factory on the outskirts of an industrial town in Álava. In the middle of a work conflict, a lump is discovered in her breast and this causes her life to take a turn. Now he is offered a second chance, but also the obligation to make some decisions.

First leading role in Miren Gaztañaga’s film, the film also features Maika Barroso, Eric Probanza, Itziar Aizpuru and Ignacio Mateos, among others, in the cast. Written by the director together with Marina Parés, it is a story of nostalgia, nostalgia for the collective struggles of the nineties, nostalgia for an idea of ​​romantic love… in which drama, humor and a fantastic element are mixed.

“This film plays with the concept of romance, looking for different artists and meanings. For example, it is a romantic story understanding the term as a feeling of love towards someone. There is no doubt that this is a film about a romantic love between two characters “that put their relationship back on track according to the parameters of other times,” says the director, who adds that “it is also the story of a place where past times are romanticized.”

“You miss the great moments of collective social struggle of the eighties and nineties, it is the longing for the urban landscape of that town in which you can no longer go to the same places that you frequented because they have closed or have ceased to exist. “That is to say, the romantic also has to do with that idealization of something lost, with a certain feeling of nostalgia.”
