Pau Cubarsí will always remember his first Champions League match at the Little Maracaná in Belgrade: he left the field with his face drawn into a map. Or, as his teammate Koundé said, with a “Halloween face” because of the kick he received from Serbian striker Spajic. The 17-year-old center back had to receive 10 stitches on his right cheekbone.
Pau Cubarsí had to be replaced due to the apparent severity of the blow, which caused him to bleed profusely. Assisted by Dr. Ricard Pruna, the center back was able to leave the field on his own.
Hours later, Cubarsí had no qualms about showing how his face looked with a wide-ranging photographic display on his Instagram account. Three images with the text “Everything for this club”.
According to Hansi Flick, the young centre-back should not have any problems being able to play on Sunday against Real Sociedad. “Cubarsí is fine, they have given him some points, but he is young. When you get older it’s different,” commented the German coach.
