The Generalitat of Catalonia has sent a message to the population of the four regions of Terres de l’Ebre affected by the rains to avoid unnecessary travel and restrict mobility as much as possible for the next three hours. Although rainfall is not expected to be as violent as that of Valencia, it can be locally intense.
This is a warning contemplated in the Generalitat’s flood plan, which remains in the alert phase. The only concern of those responsible for Emergencies is limited to the Delta de l’Ebre: the water has accumulated in the mountainous area of Els Ports and some beaches have been flooded. This Thursday it continues to rain heavily in the regions of Terra Alta, Ribera d’Ebre, Baix Ebre and Monstià, as is also happening in several neighboring regions of Castelló.
The heaviest rainfall of the rainy episode in Catalonia is occurring in the regions of Terres de l’Ebre and Camp de Tarragona. The storm left more than 100 liters in the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit natural park this Wednesday, according to data collected by the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC). The water accumulated this Thursday can equal these records in the Ports.
This Thursday the rainfall in the area will be intense and it is expected that water may accumulate. Due to the heavy rains, trains have not run between Amposta and Tortosa since the morning. On the roads, traffic is slow on the AP-7 motorway between l’Aldea and Ulldecona and there are closures on several regional roads, such as the TP-3311 between Ulldecona and Sènia or the TV-3341 between Caseres and Horta de Sant Joan. .
The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has announced on his social network account a message that has also been reiterated by the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon.
Civil Protection of the Generalitat maintains the alert of the Inuncat flood plan due to the intense rains, especially in the Terres de l’Ebre. After a quiet night, this Thursday morning the Firefighters received 12 reports of incidents, most of them due to minor damage due to flooding, such as the partial failure of the roof of a school in Tortosa.
Classes have been suspended at mid-morning on Thursday in the three regions. According to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC), in Montsià, Baix Ebre and Terra Alta the showers are important today and locally they discharge with a strong intensity and in addition violent weather phenomena are not ruled out. Furthermore, the intensity of the rains will also affect Baix Camp and Priorat, where 40 liters per square meter can be reached in 30 minutes.
