Ecologists in Action launches its anti-harassment committee after the complaint against one of its founders

Ecologistas en Acción has announced that it is launching its anti-harassment committee in response to the complaint of sexual assault against Santiago Martín Barajas, one of its founders and a prominent figure in the organization. This announcement comes after elDiario.es compiled the testimony of three women—including the complainant, who was not part of the organization—and accessed relevant documentation, including the formal complaint, a medical report and summons that the court had already sent to several people as part of the investigation.

The organization explains that the anti-harassment committee is created “within the framework of feminist justice” and is made up of four activists from the organization, including a mediator and a psychologist specialized in gender violence, and two external experts. “Its objectives are compliance with the law, the opening of spaces for listening and advice for victims of sexual harassment, the collection of data to prepare a detailed report, and the prevention of this type of behavior in the future,” says Ecologistas in a statement.

Among the proposed measures, the organization has announced the creation of a confidential complaints mailbox in order to facilitate communication and channel any request or testimony safely and confidentially.

In parallel, Ecologistas en Acción Madrid decided to provisionally suspend Martín Barajas as a member of the organization in an extraordinary assembly held on Monday, temporarily removing him from his duties: “This includes removing him from any spokesperson or communication and coordination group of the organization. association, its physical spaces, as well as the use of the association’s name on social networks. The Madrid group points out that the activist had already previously communicated that he was going to abandon his activity in Ecologistas en Acción until everything that happened is clarified.
