The DANA that is devastating the southeast of the peninsula has had catastrophic consequences especially in the southeast, where it has left at least 51 dead only in Valencia, but it has also had serious effects in Andalusia, where there have been almost a thousand incidents and a dozen neighbors had to be rescued by helicopter.
In Board (Valle del Guadalhorce, Málaga), a family had to be rescued from the terrace of their house by the Civil Guard. At around 9:30 a.m. this Tuesday, José Ruiz left his house to go to the citrus farm where he works and which has suffered damage in excess of 100,000 euros: destroyed machinery, trucks, three cars… An hour later, at 10:30 a.m., his wife called him: “We can’t leave the house, we are surrounded by water”.
The water surrounded the house, reaching four meters high. It penetrated the first floor. His wife, along with their daughter, went up to the terrace of the house, where shortly after the Civil Guard assisted them: «In a matter of half an hour they could not leave, They had to be rescued with a helicopter.», José Ruiz tells ABC with mud up to his knees, while trying to enter the citrus warehouse.
In another house they own, on the same property, some young people live rented and ran to the warehouse, whose roof they climbed, and from where they also had to be rescued by Benemérita also by helicopter.
Another man in Álora, the first place that the flood devastated, works in a construction company. Miguel Osuna decided to go when the flood started to a nearby warehouse where a group of bricklayers had parked their cars, so that they would not be affected by DANA. When the flood began to get worse, he ran up to a road next to the ship to take shelter.
«In a minute the water reached here. I ran out and got onto the road. cWhen I turned around, the cars were floating», he tells this newspaper. The flood was four meters high in this area and has left the entire town without water.
Francisco Muñoz has been living in this area for two decades, and explains that Every ten years the Guadalhorce River overflowswith catastrophic consequences. Although he lives in a high area, several of his neighbors had to be rescued. DANA has affected Cártama, Pizarra and Álora, mainly. “The helicopter skimmed the branches of the pear trees to get my neighbors out,” he adds.
