The Government of Andorra has presented, together with Var Group, the Digital Identity Citizen Wallet for the population of Andorra, a project that transforms the interaction of citizens with the public and private institutions of the neighboring country. This is an innovative technological solution that allows for more secure and efficient management of digital identity, placing Andorra as a benchmark in digital transformation in Europe. The project was presented at the Madrid Tech Show this Thursday by Marta Osuna, head of OSCEPA (Office of Electronic Trust Services of the Principality of Andorra) and Andreu Tomàs, Leader of VAR Group in Andorra.
The Digital Wallet uses self-sovereign technology to ensure that citizens control their personal data. “This digital wallet allows you to store and share verifiable credentials with various institutionsoptimizing security and ease of use,” explained Andreu Tomàs. Compatible with Android and iOS, and aligned with the European eIDAS 2 regulations, the credentials in the Digital Wallet can include cards, permits or qualifications, always maintaining control of the citizen about the information they share. This approach ensures that personal information is only disclosed to entities when strictly necessary.
Positive impact for citizens and the country
Thanks to this Var Group solution, the Government of Andorra will experience an increase in efficiency in the management of public services, significantly reducing bureaucracy and optimizing process security administrative. “The Digital Portfolio makes the digital transformation tangible among the citizens of Andorra, with a direct, useful, simple and practical application in their relationship with the Public Administration and the business community,” stated Marta Osuna. The project represents a significant advance in digital identity management, centralizing verifiable credentials such as the NIA, the Social Security card and others. In addition, it would allow its use in private entities such as banking, facilitating interaction through verified credentials, reducing times and improving security.
The need for an innovative solution
With a population of more than 87,000 inhabitants and a high adoption rate of the digital certificate, Andorra already had an advanced technological infrastructure. However, the growing use of digital certificates revealed limitations in terms of managing and updating citizens’ personal information. In response to this challenge, the Government of Andorra, together with VAR Group, has developed the Citizen Digital Wallet. This innovative tool addresses the fragmentation of information between public and private entities, and allows citizens manage and share your credentials securely and controlled, which leads to an increase in the privacy of citizens’ data.
Next steps
VAR Group will continue to work with the Government of Andorra to expand the use of the Digital Wallet, introducing new credentials such as credit cards and special permits. This solution is also expected to be adopted in all sectors of public administration and in a growing number of private companies.
