The second vice president appears at a press conference after a meeting of the Sumar group in Congress
The second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, appeared this Monday in Congress to give explanations about the Errejón case, after Sumar’s former spokesperson resigned last Thursday amid accusations of harassment and after a complaint of sexual assault. “I know we are late and for that I apologize”stated the also Minister of Labor.
During his speech, Díaz reviewed how the events unfolded last week and stated that on Wednesday he had “one of the most difficult conversations” of his life with Errejón, in which the former deputy recognized “sexist and humiliating attitudes against women”.
Sumar already stated on Saturday that, until last Tuesday, he had not known anything about the accusations of sexist behavior and aggression against Íñigo Errejón. The space thus threw the ball out and reduced its responsibility in the scandal of which he co-founded Podemos to a “failure” in prevention and detection protocols of situations of harassment and sexual violence. In this sense, he announced mechanisms to try to improve them.
In a press conference on Saturday, Sumar pointed to Más Madrid, a formation integrated into the coalition that he accused of not having informed the management when he learned of the first testimony of a victim almost a year and a half ago. This Monday, the regional match has denied being aware of the former deputy’s attitudes, while acknowledging having minimized the first complaint.
