The President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, has responded for the first time without evasion to his relationship with the commissioner of the Koldo plot, now in preventive detention for hydrocarbon fraud, Víctor de Aldama. He did so this Sunday in an informal conversation without microphones with journalists on the plane in which he traveled to India, where an official visit began this Monday.
After the publication in ‘El Mundo’ of a photo of him with Aldama taken by Koldo García, at a PSOE rally in February 2019 in Madrid, the socialist leader has flatly denied having ever met with Aldama. And he has blamed the “right, political and media” for being “desperate to relate to this character.”
“I insist: I have never met formally with this man,” the head of the Executive remarked. Likewise, Sánchez has argued that “one does not choose who one takes a photo with,” and, in clear allusion to Alberto Núñez Feijóo and his photo from the 90s, with the drug trafficker Marcial Dorado, he added that one “does choose who one takes with.” He’s going on vacation.”
His response comes after Feijóo himself demanded his resignation this Sunday, brandishing the published photograph as proof that he knew the commission agent. The PSOE, for its part, has published a one-minute video with ‘selfies’ of Sánchez with anonymous people at rallies and other electoral events. Until now, the President of the Government had evaded direct questions, both from the opposition in Congress and from the press, as happened last Wednesday in Faro (Portugal) during the Hispanolusa summit, about whether he had had any type of link with Aldama . According to various information known this year as a result of the case in which his wife, Begoña Gómez, is being investigated for alleged corruption, she had meetings with Aldama and the CEO of Air Europa, Javier Hidalgo, when they coincided at various events.
