The Spanish boat Nadir, owned by the Mallorcan owner Pedro Vaquer, today won the ClubSwan 42 class World Championship after four days of intense competition in the Bay of Palma. It is the second time that the Port d’Andratx Sailing Club team has won the largest international trophy in its category, which it already won in 2022 in Valencia.
«It has been a very difficult week, with very complicated weather. The ClubSwan 42 class forms a very compact fleet, where all the races are very close and the excitement is maintained until the last moment. “We are very satisfied with this new victory.”declared Pedro Vaquer moments after raising the cup that accredits his crew as the best in the world, during the closing ceremony of Swan One Design Worlds organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma.
The four days of racing were marked, as Vaquer stated, by unsuitable conditions on the race course in the Balearic capital, with unstable wind and occasional showers. The Committee decided to advance the start of the final day early in the morning today to try to take advantage of the land breezes, but finally the wind came from the SSE. Today two tasks were completed with many roles, an average intensity of 12 knots and some gusts of 20. The three previous days were held with winds of no more than 8 knots.
In the ClubSwan 42 class, the only one with representation of Spanish boats, the Pez de Abril, owned by José María Meseguer, fought for victory with the Nadir until the last board, but had to settle for the runner-up position, just one point behind the winner. . The Italian Canopo, by Adriano Majolino, finished off the podium.
The victory in the ClubSwan 50 class also had a Spanish flavor. Mark Bezner’s Olymp, which sails under the German flag and representing the Real Club Náutico de Palma, took advantage of the last day to climb two places and beat Monegasque Moonlight, owned by Graeme Peterson, by one point. The world champion crew in this category, where the largest Swan monotypes and the most professional teams meet, included several Spanish sailors for the occasion, including Gonzalo Araujo, Jose Ignacio Braquehais, Eduardo Horrach, Juan Luis Páez and Pedro Mas. Third place went to the Italian Cuordileone, by Leonardo Ferragamo, president of Nautor Swan.
In ClubSwan 36, the Brazilian Mamao, owned by Haakon Lorentzen, beat the Hungarian Black Battalion by two points on the last day, which was relegated to the runner-up position, ahead of the other Cuordileone, in this case built by Edoardo Ferragamo on behalf of the Nautor Swan shipyard .
