The protest for a decent housing that remained in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de València since the last saturday has decided this Sunday to break up the camp and continue its protest actions in the city’s neighborhoods.
This has been agreed upon by the members of the camp in the assembly, after considering that they have “consolidated the objectives” that were set. when they started camping.
Now, they have indicated in a statement that the mobilizations promoted by “València is not for sale” will continue, which will expand their demands in the media and strengthen the popular and community movement and give greater visibility to their activity.
In one week, they explained, “more than a dozen concerts, assemblies and talks with political content have been held, in which have participated thousands of people”.
Other cultural, union, technical and egalitarian coexistence activities have also been carried out and different work groups have been created that have been the central axis of the organization.
All of this, they have pointed out, “thanks to the solidarity, the care offered by the neighborhood fabric and the support of so many groups and organizations that have worked with us in a brotherly manner.”
“For this reason,” they added, “this Sunday we agreed to call off the occupation to continue activity in the neighborhoods.”
A city for those who live in it
With the demands of “València is not for sale” and the collective contributions of all the people who have attended the open assemblies “the neighborhood will“that Valencia wants, a city “for those who live there, that guarantees accessible housing and the protection of the territory, as well as the urgent cessation of tourism.”
In the coming months, they have pointed out, the creation of new spaces in neighborhoods or towns and work has already begun on different “big actions” to take. “If our demands are not heard, we will go towards general, consumer and rental strikes,” they warn.
Some actions that will be discussed starting today with the rest of the State entities. At the city level, work will continue on new mobilizations and “squatters” of public space.
From the camp they have pointed out that they have shown that popular networks they have strength to “bring the conflict to the doors of the City Council” and that is why they have advocated calling off this action because “if we don’t have a house, only the square is no longer worth it.” “We want everything and we will fight for everything,” they added.
