The ruling party Georgian Dreamconsidered close to Russia, won today in the Georgian parliamentary electionscrucial for the future of the country, according to the first exit polls, but with the majority in question due to the differences between the data published by the officialdom and the opposition.
The Central Electoral Commission announced that it will make public the first preliminary results two hours after the closing of the polling stations, at 10:00 p.m. local time.
According to exit polls by the state television channel Imedi, Georgian Dream obtained 56.1% of the votesfollowed by the opposition bloc Coalition for Changes, with 12.6%.
They are followed by the Unity bloc – made up of the United National Movement founded by the imprisoned former Georgian president Mikhail Saakashviliand the Renaissance Strategy party – with 11.6% and Georgia Fuerte, with 7%.
According to the Imedi survey, the Gajaria bloc for Georgia barely reaches 4.8%, below the 5% required to opt for seats in Parliament.
On the contrary, Edison Research exit pollbroadcast by the opposition television company Formula, gave Sueño Georgiano 40.9%which makes it the party with the most votes, but without reaching the parliamentary majority necessary to form a Government.
They are followed by the Unity and Coalition for Change blocs, with 16.7% each, Strong Georgia with 10.3% and Gajaria for Georgia, with 8.2%, which would further weaken the positions of Georgian Dream.
Waiting for the first official results, both Georgian Dream and the opposition have already begun to claim victory and hold separate rallies.
Georgian Dream is criticized by the opposition and the West for its rapprochement with the Kremlinexpressed in the refusal to join the sanctions against Russia for the war in Ukraine, the establishment of flights between both countries and the approval of several repressive laws similar to existing norms in Russia.
The opposition coalitions facing the ruling party have agreed to form a technical government in case Georgian Dream does not achieve a parliamentary majority.
