A banana cargo ship from Ecuador hid 13 tons of this drug among its merchandise
There is one detainee and they are looking for two others, all related to the company to which the cargo was destined
The National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency have intervened 13 tons of cocaine in the port of Algeciras camouflaged among a batch of bananas in a container, according to sources from the investigation informing Europa Press.
According to these sources, the investigation indicates that the cocaine was hidden in a container of bananas imported from Ecuador by a company based in Alicante.
The investigation, which includes records, has been declared secret and remains open, in order to try to identify everyone involved in the importation of this container with 13 tons of cocaine, which makes it the largest seizure of this drug in Spain.
As confirmed ABC from sources close to the investigation, there are a detainee and two other people are being sought for arrest, all linked to the company to which the container with the merchandise was addressed.
This joint operation represents a new success against drug trafficking organizations that use the port of Algeciras to introduce large quantities of cocaine from South America destined for different countries in Europe. In August of last year, the cooperation of the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service made possible the largest haul of cocaine until then in Spain, 9.5 tonscoming from Colombia, which would have exceeded the 4 billion euros in the market.
