Netanyahu’s deputies and ministers openly call for new illegal settlements in Gaza

As Israel intensifies its offensive in northern Gaza and continues its bombings throughout the Strip, Netanyahu’s ministers have openly called this week for the lifting of new illegal settlements in the Palestinian enclave, where more than 42,000 people have already died in the brutal campaign. Israeli, including thousands of children.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Thursday during the Simchat Torah religious holiday that Israelis will be able to celebrate it next year in the settlements in Gaza.

The statements occur the same week in which Smotrich and other ministers and politicians close to the Government participated in an event ultra-close to the border with the Strip under the slogan “Preparing to colonize Gaza.”

Smotrich then said that Gaza is “part of the land of Israel” and that “without settlements there is no security.”

For his part, the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, also participated in the event: “If we want, we can renew the settlements in Gaza,” he said. “We can also do something else: encourage emigration. The truth is that this is the most ethical and correct solution,” he added, appealing to a possible ethnic cleansing of unprecedented dimensions. “The land of Israel is ours.”

Social Equality Minister May Golan — of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Likud party — declared at the conference that “taking territory” from the Arabs is what “hurts them the most,” and that settlements in Gaza would reinforce the security of Israel. Deputies from Likud and other radical formations also participated in the event.

“The settlements are the total victory. “What they call the house of Islam will become the house of the Jews,” said a deputy from the prime minister’s party.

The settlements have been declared illegal by the International Court of Justice, but Israel has expanded them year after year. Israel dismantled its settlements and withdrew from Gaza in 2005
