Pacma censures the award of the Princess of Asturias for the Arts to Joan Manuel Serrat for his support of bullfighting

While Joan Manuel Serrat claimed in Oviedo the value of tolerance in society, the Animalist Party (Pacma) censored on social networks the awarding of the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts to the Catalan singer-songwriter. The reason: his support for bullfighting.

According to the animal activists, who would not fill even ten bullrings with their votes (nor 170,000 in 2023 compared to the almost one million who attended Las Ventas), the award “should take into account not only the artistic contribution, but also the ethical values and the coherence in the public career of the award-winning figures.

«Would we reward someone who supported gender violence, human trafficking or child exploitation? “So, why are those who support bullfighting and animal abuse celebrated?” animal activists question with an indecent mix of issues. The same ones who this year look at the grandfather lying in the street and then buy gold cribs for a dog.

And Pacma adds in its X profile: “No matter how good a musician he is, Joan Manuel Serrat has publicly defended a cruel practice that has no place in our current society.”

Serrat recently participated in ‘A last waltz’ by Joaquín Sabina, the singer who was not a bullfighter because of cowardice. With Fernando León de Aranoa as fighting director in the video clip, José Tomás also appears, who has the admiration of ‘Flaco de Úbeda’ and Serrat.

The three anti-bullfighting cats will not be able to ruin Serrat’s happiness these days in Asturias.
