The National Police has arrested four alleged fans of the Atlético de Madrid for launching a hate campaign in social networks in which they encouraged racist insults against the player of the real Madrid Vinicius Jrdays before the Madrid derby in the stadium Metropolitan on September 29.
Those arrested are charged with an alleged crime of hate speech and more arrests are not ruled out, since the investigation remains open, as reported this Thursday by the Madrid Police Headquarters in a press release.
The campaign, which managed to become a trend on the social network x with an impact of 1.7 billion views7,000 republications and almost 56,000 interactions, encouraged people to go to the Metropolitan with a mask to avoid being identified and to be able to thus sending humiliating and discriminatory messages against the Real Madrid forward.
The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, will be remembered by the temporary suspension of the match in the second part by the launch of ultras amateur lighters of the Athletic Front towards the Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtoiswhich ultimately meant closing that stand during a match and a financial fine of 3,000 euros.
The investigation that has led to these three arrests began on October 1 after the Professional Soccer League filed four complaints with the Police about the campaign, which was picked up by national and international media and generated “an important social alarm”according to the Police.
The agents carried out a detailed tracking and analysis of the information obtained and managed to identify the authors of the publications, who were arrested between October 14 and 15 and placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.
