The parties with representation in the Madrid Assembly They have already made public the names of the people they want to appear in the investigation commission that has been created in parliament at the proposal of the PP to clarify If the Complutense University had any favorable treatment with Begoña Gómezwife of Pedro Sánchez, appointing her to co-direct several postgraduate studies. As had already been advanced, The ‘popular’ and Vox have asked Gómez herself to attend the Assembly. Both parties have also demanded the appearance of the President of the Government, an attendance that in principle the Chief Executive could excuse because there are parliamentary precedents in this regard. The PSOE has demanded the presence of Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the president of the Assembly, Enrique Ossorio, and Más Madrid has opted to summon the former Madrid presidents Esperanza Aguirre and Cristina Cifuentes and the former leader of the PP Pablo Casado.
The names proposed by the parties total more than 150 and are very varied, because in addition to being politicians There are university presidents, academics, businessmen… The long list of candidates to pass through the Chamber of Vallecas in the coming months that the formations have presented will force them to come to an agreement, since it is not considered that more than twenty people will appear.
The number of statements will depend on the work sessions set by the investigative body’s table, which could range between five and six, although this is a decision yet to be made throughout this week. What is known is that the number of attendees, three per day, will be distributed among the parties applying the proportional system established by the so-called D’Hont Law.
This has provoked heated complaints from the opposition because the PP, having an absolute majority in the Chamber, will attract the largest number of people to quote. Thus, if it is decided that the commission holds six sessions there will be 18 people to be named, of which 10 will correspond to the ‘popular’, four to Más Madrid, three to the PSOE and a single one to Vox.
The PP has proposed 55 names, including President Sánchez and one of his advisors, María Cristina Álvarez. “His appearance will be requested if during the course of the commission it could be understood that the chair directed by his wife was created at the table in the President of the Government’s office,” said Carlos Díaz-Pache, spokesperson for the PP in the Assembly. The rest of the list of this group is made up of Complutense staff with various responsibilities and also members of companies related to the chairs and master’s degrees that Begoña Gómez co-directed and that the ‘popular’ people put under the microscope.
The second group with the most appearances, Más Madrid, has included in its proposal PP politicians who already hold institutional positions such as Aguirre, Cifuentes and Casado, but also the current president of the Assembly, Enrique Ossorio, who in the last legislature was responsible for Education; to Emilio Viciana, his successor; and Rocío Albert, current Minister of Economy and former high-ranking official of Education. Furthermore, the progressive formation is committed to calling six university financing experts to “redirect” the purpose of the commission and stop it being “a media circus.”
The names of the six rectors of Madrid’s public universities and the professors and other positions of the Complutense appear on the PSOE list. The socialists also hope that they appear the current president of the Community and her chief of staffMiguel Ángel Rodríguez. For its part, Vox has been inclined to include in its list the president of the Government, the former ministers Nadia Calviño and José Manuel Uribes or the former Madrid councilor Juan José Güemes, who is currently vice president of Economic Affairs of the Business Institute.
The formation led by Abascal also wants them to go through the Assembly the businessmen Javier Hidalgo, Carlos Barrabés and Víctor de Aldamawho has been in prison for days for alleged Social Security fraud of 73 million euros and whose name also appears in the so-called Koldo case that the courts are investigating.
