A coup d’état in Canary Islands football: Diego Armando Maradona junior, new coach of UD Ibarra

It has not been a good start to the season for the UD Ibarraa Canarian team from the Third Federation that recently announced the dismissal of Francis Díaz as coach, which has left the team fifth from bottom with 7 points in seven games played. The team from the Tenerife town of Arona has delivered a coup this Tuesday by announcing as a substitute Diego Maradona Junior (38 years old), who has committed until the end of the season.

The son of the Argentine star who died in 2020 has developed his entire career on the modest benches of Italian teams such as Napoli United, Pompei and Club Montecalcio, facing his first experience outside that country at UD Ibarra.

“UD Ibarra is pleased to present Diego Armando Maradona JR, who will be part of the first team coaching staff,” the Canary Islands club reported in its official media.
