Last week, ‘The Magic Bullet’, a fiction podcast made by Summer Story that combines thriller and humor and has conspiracy theories as the background of its plot, was presented at the Callao City Lights cinemas in Madrid.
The fiction has a first-class cast made up of Irene Escolar (‘Tell me who I am’), Silvia Abascal (‘The Cathedral of the Sea’), Roberto Álamo (‘The Great Spanish Family’) and Carlos Peguer (‘La Pija y Quinqui’).
‘The Magic Bullet’ is made up of six chapters directed by Álvaro de Cózar, creative director and co-founder of Summer Storyand author of successful podcasts such as ‘Misterio en la Moraleja’, winner of the Ondas Award for Best Podcast in 2022: «This sound fiction will surprise the public because more than ever they will feel that they are watching a film, even if it is exclusively sound. It is a cinematic audio experience where every sound, every performance, has been worked with the utmost detail. The result is a podcast full of mystery and conspiracies, but also fun, which I hope will entertain and captivate those who listen to it.
The truth can change everything
In ‘The Magic Bullet’, the border between reality and fiction is blurred and it is explored how conspiracy theories and misinformation can influence our perception of the world.
The protagonists work to deny hoaxes and fake news and the results lead them to discover that, sometimes, apparently forgotten or science fiction theories can hide a truth capable of completely transforming our vision of certain topics.
Irene School It is Marta Barriuso, the protagonist, a restless journalist whose search for that hidden truth leads her to get into a compromising situation. Winner of a Goya for best new actress in 2015 for ‘An Autumn Without Berlin’ and very topical for her role as Manuela Carmena in RTVE’s ‘The Lawyers’, she faces her first foray into the fiction podcast: «Lo que What caught my attention was precisely the fact that I had never done it before, it is a way to try many things as an actress with just a microphone and being able to tell a story with a very different dynamic has been very appealing to me.
For Silvia Abascalnominated three times for the Goya and also known for her role as a theater and television actress in productions such as ‘Pepa y Pepe’ or ‘La Catedral del Mar’, this is also her first foray into the world of sound fiction. Her role is that of Teresa, Marta’s best friend and advisor: «What I liked most about the podcast is that it has made me realize that we are immersed in this rhythm of information consumption that does not give us time to stop. think and distinguish reality from so many lies, hoaxes and conspiracy theories.
For its part, Roberto Alamowinner of two Goyas and a Max Prize, and star of great critical and public successes such as ‘Urtain’, ‘Antidisturbios’ or ‘May God forgive us’, plays José Luis, a civil guard key in the plot: «From When we are born we learn to lie to protect ourselves. Lying in itself is not a bad thing, sometimes we protect ourselves. We don’t go around telling people what we feel as soon as we meet. We all learn to manage ourselves socially. What strengthens me is that there are small lies that make us survive, but in the big issues, the big truths, I am convinced that it will triumph and the podcast also talks about it.
For Carlos Peguer, co-host of ‘La pija y la quinqui’, one of the most listened to podcasts in Spain, ‘The Magic Bullet’ marks his debut in sound fiction and his debut as an actor: «I didn’t expect to do something of this type because I’m not an actor, but it was very fun, I have worked with some incredible actors who have helped me a lot. The script, in addition to being a police story, has some very funny comedy spots and I found it very interesting. It is very consumable because they are also short chapters, so I am convinced that it will be a success for any type of audience.
The Magic Bullet is now available for free on Spotify and the main audio platforms.
