He has acknowledged that Diego Montaña hit Samuel Luiz after a shout that combined death threats and homophobia. He has admitted that Alejandro Freire, alias ‘Llumba’, his best friend at the time among the five investigated, grabbed the victim by the throat. But, in addition, this young man, who was part of the group, was the first of the witnesses who in the trial pointed out Kaio Amaral, another of the accused. He saw him “load his leg”, that is, make the gesture to kick Samuel, when he was already on the ground, but he did not see the moment of impact.
In the sessions held so far, in the trial being held this month by the Provincial Court of La Coruña for the brutal beating that ended the life of Samuel Luiz in July 2021, several witnesses and two accused clearly pointed to Diego Montaña as the young man. who started the attack. Also to Llumba, for knocking down the young man with a technique known as ‘mataleón’. But, for the first time, this Monday a witness pointed out Kaio. They are the three young people who are in provisional prison for the crime.
When asked by the prosecutor in the case, Olga Serrano, this witness explained it like this: «Kaio came in strides, as if carrying his leg to kick. “He came running and stopped.” But the young man did not see the kick. As detailed in response to questions from the accusations, he was able to observe the gesture, but not the place where that agreement had an impact.
For her part, in her witness statement, the one who was Kaio Amaral’s girlfriend at the time of the events, has assured the jury that at no time did she see her then partner attack Samuel Luiz. Not kicking him, not even having made the gesture, as Llumba’s friend had claimed. Quite the contrary, according to his version, when Diego Montaña and Llumba were on the victim, Kaio “tried to separate them.”
In short, this girl has disassociated Kaio from the attack, for which she blames Diego Montaña and Llumba – in her case for grabbing Samuel by the neck – but also Marco, one of the young people who, along with David, alias ‘Pompo’, were minors at the time of the crime and that is why they were convicted of the murder in a separate judicial process.
