The aforementioned railway services have been interrupted from 7:30 p.m. hours since the presence of an unauthorized person on the upper walkway of the station has forced train circulation to be cut off, while the railway operator activated the emergency protocol for this purpose at that time.
“At the request of the Security Forces and Bodies, The voltage has been cut at the Madrid Puerta de Atocha station due to the presence of a person at an unauthorized access point. Suspended circulation of High Speed, Long and Medium Distance and Commuter trains,” the railway operator added through its information account in X.
Likewise, shortly before 8:00 p.m. and as a consequence of the collapse situation, the Cercanías Madrid account in X reported the presence of people on the road near the station.
Previous incident in the Atocha-Chamartín bird tunnel
In parallel, Renfe has announced a few hours before that circulation in the AVE tunnel that connects the Atocha and Chamartín stations has been interrupted by a derailment.
The railway company has detailed in a statement that The incident occurred due to “an axle exit in the tail unit of an empty material during a maneuver”.
“The unit was empty and the driver was not injured,” the operator added.
Likewise, Renfe has indicated that this incident is especially affecting AVE rail traffic that connects Madrid with the east of the country.
