Atlético de Madrid has decided not to sell tickets in the away zone to any of the members of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano’s entertainment stands for the next five games. In that sector of the stands are the club’s ultras, who were involved in throwing objects onto the pitch during the last Madrid derby.
In this way, fans who have their seats in this area of the Colchonero field will not be able to buy tickets for the matches that the team will play away from home against Betis, Vic, PSG, Mallorca and Sparta Prague.
The entity has defended in a statement the adoption of this measure given the “seriousness of the situation.” The club has received two sanctions “as a result of different incidents carried out by a small minority of fans.”
The measure will have effect on trips against Betis, Vic, PSG, Mallorca and Sparta Prague
Specifically, the Competition Committee has imposed the partial closure of the red-and-white stadium in the next three matches in the south end and two financial fines amounting to 105,000 euros. Of this amount, 30,000 correspond to the sanction imposed by UEFA due to the Nazi salutes that a part of its fans gave at the Stadium of Light against Benfica.
Added to this is the proposal of the Anti-Violence Commission to completely close the Metropolitano for two weeks due to the derby incidents.
In the club’s statement, they denounce that “the damage that has been caused to the image of Atlético and its fans, the vast majority of whom have had exemplary behavior, is difficult to repair.” “The seriousness of the matter and the responsibility of safeguarding the image of our club has forced the entity to take this measure while all those involved in said incidents are identified,” they add.
The rojiblancos trust that the measure “will help in the process of eradicating this type of attitude”, although it may be “unfair for the vast majority of fans who behave correctly”.
