Gamescom, the most important video game fair in Europe, returns today with a new edition. The event in Cologne (Germany) will be held between August 21 and 25, but it starts this afternoon with its traditional opening ceremony, the Opening Night Live.
The presentation will begin at 8:00 p.m. (peninsular time), it can be followed online (through the following video) and will serve to see previews of the games that will arrive over the next few months.
The presentation is expected to last approximately two hours and, although its organizers have not specified how many games can be seen, it is already known that it will feature highly anticipated titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Civilization VII, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 either Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
The Canadian journalist and event producer Geoff Keighley is responsible for the event and tonight he will once again act as master of ceremonies. Keighley, who is also the organizer of The Game Awards gala, stated a few days ago that, in addition to the titles already announced, “there will also be many announcements of new games, surprises and special guests.”
How to watch Opening Night Live
The event will be broadcast through the official channels of TheGameAwards on YouTube (through the video that heads this news), Twitch and X.
Although the presentation officially begins at 8:00 p.m., a pre-show by video game critic Kyle Bosman will take place starting at 7:30 p.m., which will already feature some previews of new titles.
The Opening Night Live games
Keighley himself announced a few days ago some of the games that will be part of the event. Among them Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Little Nightmares III, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Batman: Arkham Shadow, Dune Awakening, Marvel Rivals either Civilization VIIamong others.
Another title that could be seen is the expected one Death Stranding 2whose creator, the Japanese creative Hideo Kojima, has been giving clues on social networks for a few days. Additionally, a new project has also been announced from Swedish studio Tarsier Studios, the original creators of the acclaimed Little Nightmares.
Although the Opening Night Live event is the initial presentation, Gamescom 2024 takes place in person from August 21 to 25, Wednesday to Sunday, at the Koelnmesse convention center in Cologne.
Gamescom is one of the most important fairs in the world not so much because of its announcements, but because of the number of people who visit it, since it is a commercial event open to the public. In 2022, the first edition to be held in person after the pandemic, had more than 320,000 visitors from 115 countries, according to figures from the organization itself.
