Together will defend next week in the Senate Plenary a motion in which it demands that the Government immediately make it available to the municipalities, regional councils and the Generalitat of Catalonia “all residential land, plots and homes“of which the Sareb and that transfer goes accompanied by “financing enough” to rehabilitate homes that need it.
The initiative is similar to the one approved on October 10 in the Catalan Parliament, within the framework of the General Policy Debate, and which also bore the signature of those of Carles Puigdemont.
“Despite the insistence and the enormous number of legislative initiatives promoted by the different parliamentary bodies, the issue raised has not had the response we expected by the ministry responsible for housing policies,” argues Junts to justify its decision to take this demand to the Upper House.
More than 13,000 homes and 3,000 plots
In the text, which is expected to be rejected by the absolute majority that the PP has in the Senate, the independence party points out that Sareb has in Catalonia more than 13,000 homes, almost 3,000 plots and more than 1,700 works in progress. All of this is the result of the rescue of several banking entities, since Sareb, 50.1% owned by the State, was created in 2012 to dispose of the banks’ toxic assets.
Junts recalls that last July the so-called ‘bad bank’ already announced the transfer to Catalonia of a dozen of the plots it has in the community to build 668 affordable rental apartmentswhich he considers insufficient. “It is estimated that if you give up 12 lots a year, it would take 240 years to obtain all of them,” the text points out, emphasizing that this transfer must be carried out now to help alleviate the problem of access to housing in their community.
“These are homes that citizens – through the State – have already paid for and now must be useful,” emphasizes Junts, which urges to resolve the debate on the ownership of these properties “intelligently and thinking especially about young people and groups without housing.”
