Until next November 3, 2024, the registration period is open for the VI edition of the Desalambre Awards, an award with which elDiario.es wants to recognize the committed work of journalism and civil society in the defense of rights humans.
The Desalambre Awards aim to promote and celebrate professional quality and personal dedication in one of the most transcendental information fields of our time. Journalism has followed the alert launched for decades by social organizations about the fundamental risks and challenges for our society and, therefore, these awards want to recognize this effort to keep the focus on what is important and on the stories of the most vulnerable.
In turn, elDiario.es wants to contribute to the development of the third sector, give visibility to its projects and recognize the work of those organizations that defend causes of public and general interest: development cooperation, child care, children’s rights. migrants, the defense of the environment or universal access to essential services such as education or health.
Until next November 3, works published between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024 can be submitted for these awards. The required documentation will be requested through the registration form that can be found at the website of the VI edition of the Desalambre Awardswhere the selection of award-winning works will also be announced.
Desalambre is the publication specialized in human rights of elDiario.es, awarded for its intense coverage of all dimensions of the migration phenomenon and a meeting point for those interested in international cooperation policies.
This sixth edition of the Desalambre Awards awards a total of seven prizes. Six of them divided into two categories: Activism and NGOs, as well as Journalism.
The Special Public Recognition category is also maintained, an addition from the previous edition that awards a prize for the best content generated on social networks. With this recognition, the Desalambre Awards want to vindicate the role of the public as a key and essential element in the work of disseminating and promoting new formats and content on social networks.
The Desalambre Awards will present seven awards, one for each award, which consists of a limited and unique edition made especially for the Desalambre Awards.
For their part, the award-winning works in the category of Journalism and Special Public Recognition will receive a financial award of €1,000.

The categories in the field of journalism are:
- Award for the best chronicle or written report for the best written journalistic work, published by professionals, individuals, individually or collectively, in Spain in defense of human rights and freedoms.
- Award for the best graphic or multimedia journalistic workpublished by professionals, individuals, individually or collectively, in any media in Spain that has carried out better image or innovation work in the defense of human rights and freedoms.
- Perseverance Awardan award designed to applaud tenacity and commitment in journalistic routine. It will recognize a professional career committed to the defense of human rights and freedoms.
The categories in the field of NGOs are:
- Award for the best communication campaign of an NGO that stands out for content with relevant social impact.
- Award for the best documentation and research workwhich aims to recognize the work of NGOs when making reports that journalists then use as fundamental raw material.
- Activism award in defense of human rightsfor that person who has stood out during the year for their social action.
Special public recognition:
- Award for creating content on social networks in defense of human rights: Rewards the work of dissemination and creation of social content with a human rights focus.
The registration period ends on November 3, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. The Desalambre Awards will be presented at a ceremony held at CaixaForum Madrid on February 5, 2025.
