The first of the “at least three times” that Conchita acted in the Cadena 100 Concert For Themhad just released his first album and, naturally, he was amazed when he took the stage of a packed WiZink Center. «Whether singing, or being in the audience, experiencing music there is a shot of energy that feels very good for people who are suffering from cancer, their families and loved ones, and everyone in general! “I am very excited to be able to help for another year,” says this woman of the world who came to Spain at the age of fourteen, after being born in Finland and spending her childhood in Russia, France and Germany.
This Saturday, the singer and songwriter returns to the event against breast cancer accompanied by a cast made up of “great friends like Rozalén” and other artists including Dani Fernández, Amaral, Nena Daconte, Vicco, Miriam Rodríguez, Paula Mattheus , Julia Medina, Melocos, Marlena, Lorena Gómez and Marina Carmona, who will join their voices to raise funds for research. «There is a phrase that caught my attention when I heard it from a friend who suffered from Parkinson’s: ‘I hope science runs faster than my disease.’ That would be my greatest wish, that it also runs faster than cancer,” summarizes Conchita.
The author of so many Spanish pop hits (she composes for Bisbal, Vanesa Martín, Sergio Dalma or Luz Casalamong many others) points out that in the fight against breast cancer, psychology is as important as biochemistry, “because many fears come in even when you overcome it,” he says. She has the close case of a friend who managed to be cured one hundred percent, but now “she is hesitating whether to do genetic tests to find out if her daughters can have it in the future, because she is not sure if she wants to know or not,” and she is clear that mental health care is an essential part of this battle.
In that sense, their union, that of musicians, also has a lot to advance. The case of Liam Payne’s death, which occurred hours before attending ABC, has reminded Conchita. «Just like a sick person needs to have someone by their side, musicians need to always have someone close to them who loves us. Human beings are not prepared for fame. And if you don’t have it, you’re lost.
