Chihuahua. – By disappearing the National Transparency Institute (INAI) as Morena intends through the Federal Legislative Branch, far from ending transparency, the right of citizens to access information is strengthened.
This was considered by the coordinator of the Morena deputies, Cuauhtémoc Estrada, who said that the functions of the INAI would be carried out by other agencies of the same government, in addition to the fact that citizens can trust that the government would provide the requested information.
“The right to transparency is not going to be eliminated, the function of transparency is not going to be eliminated, because it is an administrative simplification, where the functions of the INAI will pass to the Secretariat of Public Administration in some cases, and other entities in other cases,” declared the legislator.
The President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that she will present a proposal to the Chamber of Deputies so that the Transparency Institute be replaced by a State Secretariat that would be called the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat.
He also said that in the absence of an autonomous transparency body, this is not a scenario where the government reviews itself and decides whether or not to provide information to citizens.
“It is not a question of (the government) reviewing itself, because yours is a sophistic question. Those who review the performance and the budget are the audits, the Superior in the case of the Federal Government, and the State. The INAI does not have Audit functions, there is confusion there.
The legislator also mentioned that in the event that the Government maintained a refusal to provide information, the Secretariat of Public Administration would have powers for greater efficiency so that the right to transparency does not disappear.
