Skoda is taking its time in the process of electrifying its range. The Czech automaker had previously planned to launch six new electric cars within the next two years: the new Elroq and Epiq SUVs, the production version of the Vision 7S concept, a 4.7 meter long station wagon and the restyling of the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé. But that won’t be the case.
Skoda changes strategy
In fact, it seems that the company has decided to delay the station wagon, which is also almost confirmed to inherit the Octavia name, until late 2027 or early 2028. A choice that Skoda has decided to make in response to the declining demand for electric vehicles in Europe together with another important choice: that of extend the life of its models small size with internal combustion engine.
The electric station wagon is postponed to 2027
“If we’re being completely honest, as the transition to battery electric vehicles slows, we are revisiting our line storm – declared Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer to Autocar – We are checking the launch sequence of those cars. The current cadence is we’ve had the Enyaq Coupe, the Elroq, next is the Epiq and next in line will be the SUV, the 7S which you’ve seen the concept car of. After that, it could be 2027 or 2028, we will aim for an Octavia station wagon.”
The small petrol ones resist
At the same time, as mentioned above, the petrol B-segment Fabia, the Kamiq crossover and the Scala hatchback received a extension of the life cycle until the end of the decade. “We originally said we would phase out the Fabia, Kamiq and Scala by 2027, but we have now given the green light for those cars to stay with us until the end of the decade, because the slowdown in EV sales is happening as we speak,” Zellmer specified.
