Top-10 also for Raul Fernandez
Pedro Acosta’s podium allowed KTM/GasGas to extend its leadAprilia in the fight for second place in the Constructors’ standings, but Maverick Viñales leaves Indonesia with good feelings. The two yellow flags in Q2 were detrimental to the Spanish driver’s hopes of repeating the podium obtained in 2023.
“It was a great race. We had the race pace to fight for the podium, but in any case we must be happy with the result. It’s a shame about qualifying, on this track you can’t miss a single session, because starting so far back it’s difficult to recover. In the race I found very positive aspects of the bike, both here and in Misano we found them, and this encourages us from now to the end of the year“, the assessment of the future KTM rider.
Aleix Espargarò he was involved in the carambola on the first lap triggered by Jack Miller which also involved Luca Marini and Alex Marquez: “We had a lot of bad luck throughout the weekend, we weren’t able to find the competitiveness we expected. We made some set-up changes for the long race, but unfortunately we couldn’t try them due to the crash I was involved in. I’m optimistic ahead of the Japanese GP and I will try to turn the situation around“.
Raul Fernandez brought Aprilias to two in the Top-10, Massimo Rivola he hopes for a weekend with a little more luck in Motegi: “A weekend below expectations given our speed on this track last year. Qualifying was compromised by yellow flags and this certainly affected both the sprint and the race. Maverick, in free air, had the pace to stay close to the podium, a wasted opportunity to restore some morale in a complicated period for us. We can’t wait to go to Japan to demonstrate all our untapped potential in the last few races“.
