Repeating what he had done with Edmundo González, Venezuela’s main opposition candidate in the last presidential election, dictator Nicolás Maduro said this Saturday (28) that opposition leader María Corina Machado is preparing her escape from the country. She has not yet commented on the comments.
“Today I tell you, the supposed queen bee has run out of bees and is preparing her Gucci bags (…). She knows what I’m saying, ‘La Sayona’ [em referência a Machado] they are getting ready to leave, compadre, I’m telling you, they are cowards”, said Maduro during a demonstration to celebrate his fraudulent electoral victory, in the state of La Guaira, according to information on the website Efecto Cocuyo.
“Fascists promote hatred, division, intolerance, they seek violence, when they are in groups they rebel, but when they are defeated, they are cowards”, added the dictator.
Since the electoral fraud that gave Maduro victory in the presidential election on July 28, Machado has published messages and called demonstrations to demand the proclamation of González as the winner of the election, but has not reported his whereabouts.
She is accused by Chavismo of inciting violence in post-election demonstrations (in which security forces killed 27 people and arrested hundreds more, according to reports from NGOs, the opposition and the Venezuelan press) and of having committed crimes by publishing information on a website copies of the voting records proving González’s victory.
He also suffered intimidation and legal persecution from Chavismo before going into exile in Spain three weeks ago.
Before the Chavista court issued an arrest order against González, Maduro had stated that the oppositionist was “in a cave and preparing his escape from Venezuela”, with the aim of taking “money to Miami”.
