McLaren still shopping for Red Bull
Will Courtenayhead of race strategy at Red Bull, is leaving Red Bull after 20 years (including 14 years in this role) and will move to McLarenwhere he will be the new sporting director. The Woking team itself announced this a few minutes ago.
Courtenay will report to Racing Director Randeep Singh, and will bring to the Papaya team the experience of someone who has already experienced two winning cycles (one with Sebastian Vettel and the other with Max Verstappen).
Stella’s words
“Will’s experience, professionalism and passion for motorsports make him the ideal candidate to lead our sports operations.”, commented McLaren team principal Andrea Star. “We are entering a key phase in our journey as a team and we are confident that it will be a great addition to our strong team as we try to continue fighting for victories and championships”.
Courtenay, who according to internal Red Bull sources contacted by BBC will continue to be part of the team and has a contract that will expire only in mid-2026, he will therefore follow Rob Marshall at McLaren, while Red Bull loses its third senior figure in just five months following the departures of Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley to Aston Martin and Audi respectively.
