The renovated Autodromo Nazionale di Monza has seen Maserati protagonist in both races of the fifth seasonal appointment of the Fanatec GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli. In Race 1, the House of the Trident monopolized the podium with three cars in the first three places. The victory went to the Leonardo Gorini-Carlo Tamburini duo at the wheel of the Maserati GT2 number 1 fielded by LP Racing, who preceded Alexandre Leroy (number 24 of TFT Racing), author of the pole position and winner of the AM class. Third step of the podium for Philippe Prette (in the number 2 of LP Racing), who also earned him second place in the class.
In Race 2, Gorini-Tamburini achieved an important second place in a comebacka result that allows them to still fight for the overall victory in the championship. Philippe Prette, who was on his way to finishing in fourth place and at the top of the AM class, was unlucky: due to a puncture during the last lap he classified ninth, fourth in the class. Alexandre Leroy, on the other hand, was forced to retire due to contact with an opponent.
Bind
The Maserati GT2s were the immediate protagonists at the start of Race 1 behind poleman Alexandre Leroy. After a Safety Car phase, the Trident cars took the first three positions, with Gorini able to initially overtake both Prette and Leroy. The situation crystallized after the pit-stop phase, with Tamburini gaining further ground and consolidating the first position, finishing ahead of Leroy and Prette, for an all-Maserati podium.
The second race sees Gorini-Tamburini facing a comeback race, due to a problem in qualifying that forces them to start from the back. Tamburini immediately starts at a great pace and in a few laps he moves up to second position. Prette and Leroy also aim for the podium and decide to make the pit-stop at the beginning of the window. Unfortunately, Leroy is forced to abandon due to a contact in the first chicane, while Prette is the victim of a puncture on the last lap that demotes him to ninth place.
Gorini, who took over from Tamburini in the number 1 Maserati GT2, is getting closer and closer to the leader, only just failing to catch him on the final lap. With second place, however, Gorini-Tamburini keep the fight open for the overall victory in the final round in Barcelona scheduled for October 11-13. Prette and Leroy can also still win the title in the AM class.
A fourth Maserati GT2 also made its debut in the Fanatec GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli at the Monza event, fielded by Dinamic Motorsport with drivers Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini, which unfortunately was unable to finish Race 1 due to an accident that prevented it from lining up in the following race.
To conclude the sporting season, Maserati will be busy with its GT2s in the last appointment of the season Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli 2024 scheduled from 11th to 13th October in Barcelona, Spain.
From the track to the road
In Monza during the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli championship race weekend, The new Maserati GT2 Stradale super sports car was also presented in European preview. The car, officially unveiled last August in California during the prestigious Monterey Car Week, is a hymn to the most extraordinary and exclusive sportiness, the result of the technical and stylistic union between the Maserati GT2, the maximum expression of performance created for the Brand’s return to closed-wheel racing, and the Maserati MC20, the iconic Trident car characterised by an unmistakable style.
GT2 Stradale is a car born on the track and approved for road use, capable of combining the extreme and refined performance of the racing world with the possibility of everyday driving. It is the best of MC20 and GT2, representing Maserati’s racing DNA: the maximum speed is 324 km/h, the maximum power has been increased to 640 HP (471kW), 10 HP more than the MC20, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h covered in just 2.8 seconds makes it the fastest RWD (rear-wheel drive) in its category.
