Pecco’s anger
“I’m pissed off“. The Misanese Sunday of Pecco Bagnaia can be summed up with these words, which come at the end of a day in which – according to the reigning world champion – nothing happened “nothing normal“. The fallwhich arrived on lap 21/27 with Bagnaia third and who was pushing to close the gap that separated him from the Martin-Bastianini duo, is the one that will be remembered most of this day and it is the moment that certainly gives a new twist to this season. But the greatest anger the #1 of Ducati has is towards his rear tirewhich didn’t work for the first 15 laps, forcing Bagnaia to “let go” his rivals.
“Mood? My mood is that I’m pissed off – thundered the three-time world champion – I don’t have it against Michelin, because I can’t be angry with someone who does something unintentional. Because I don’t think they even know what happened. But it pisses me off: I did everything perfect all weekend. I won the Sprint, I got the pole, I got a good start and I was first on the first lap. And then instead I had to slow down and let him pass me until I lost three seconds because I couldn’t push anymore. Then when the rear tyre started working I was the fastest, and by a lot. This is a huge shame, another missed opportunity to be the championship leader.“.
Unexplained fall
Bagnaia explained that he had a ‘warning’ of this tire problem on the alignment lapwhen he had similar sensations to those experienced in Barcelona last year, when then there was the frightening fall in turn 2 that could have cost him dearly: “I had the exact same feeling – declared the Ducati rider – even today in the warm-up lap I risked falling at the last corner. The bike started without even giving it gas”.
According to Bagnaia, the crash in the race is also indirectly linked to the mysterious problem he had with the rear tyre: “To overcome the problems I had with my race pace due to the rear tyre, I pushed hard on the brakes throughout the race, wearing it out a bit. [la gomma] – explained the reigning champion speaking to the media, including FormulaPassion.it – but on the crash lap I actually braked 18 meters earlier than when I did my best lap in the race. And despite that I lost it in front while I was still upright. Looking at the images you can see quite clearly that I had some strange vibrations, which led to a fall with a front closure while standing upright. We have a lot to analyze in my opinion“.
The Beast-Martin Contact
It is then impossible not to ask Bagnaia for an opinion on what happened on the last lap between Bastianini and Martin. Regarding the overtaking that decided the race Pecco’s opinion is clear: “I see it as a race overtaking. I’m not saying this because I’m biased: receiving an overtaking like that makes you pissed off, obviously. But it’s something that happened to me with Jorge several times last year. It happened to me in India, when he was even more aggressive than Enea was today, and it happened to me in Qatar at the start of the Sprint. If you do something you have to accept that it can also be done to you. For me it’s a normal race overtaking: aggressive but fair“.
