Mexico City.- Janet Jackson has been branded “irrelevant” and a “leech” after questioning US Vice President Kamala Harris’ race during an interview with The Guardian.
“She’s not African-American. That’s what I heard. She’s Indian. Her father is white, that’s what I was told,” the 58-year-old singer said during a State of the Union address.
“I haven’t watched the news in days. I was told that they found out that her father was white,” she continued. Fans were horrified by the “That’s The Way Love Goes” singer’s remarks and criticized her on X, formerly Twitter.
“This is why he’s irrelevant and riding off his brothers’ success,” “Janet you know better than to believe that nonsense Especially after all the racial controversies Michael went through,” “‘That’s what I heard’ is the new way of saying ‘I believe the baseless bullshit people tell me,'” were some of the comments made by Internet users to Jackson.
Others compared the songwriter’s comments to Republican nominee Donald Trump’s statement about Harris’ alleged race change while at a conference of black journalists in July. “I’ve known her for a long time, indirectly, and she was always of Indian descent and she was just promoting Indian heritage,” the former president, 78, said. “I didn’t know she was African-American until a few years ago when she happened to become African-American, and now she wants to be known as African-American.” Harris, 59, is the daughter of two immigrants: her father is Jamaican and her mother is Indian.
