Chihuahua.- Regarding the case of the two-month suspension of the mayor of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Edith EE, the government secretary Santiago de la Peña, said that they are keeping an eye on the situation of the municipality and said that there are still legal avenues that the former official could use to appeal the decision of the State Administrative Justice Tribunal, TEJA, so it would be necessary to wait to see if the City Council will call the substitute to assume the position.
“She certainly has some legal alternatives to challenge this resolution and what we must do is to be respectful of the Court’s decision and the legal actions she may take if she so deems to challenge this resolution,” he said.
“The Constitution and the Municipal Code define the mechanisms that will be activated if the sanction imposed by the Court to suspend her for two months comes into effect. The City Council will surely have to call the substitute in the absence resulting from the suspension of the mayor herself,” he added.
In this order of ideas, he emphasized that this situation is provided for in the Constitution, but it should be the City Council that puts this mechanism into operation so that the mayor’s office does not become headless in said municipality.
It should be remembered that the mayor of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Edith EE, was removed from office for 60 days, after being found responsible for a serious administrative offense reported by the State Superior Audit Office (ASE), which was discovered after the review of the 2021 Public Account.
According to information published by El Diario de Chihuahua, the current mayor signed the contract that favored her sister, with the initials MAEE, through which she would provide legal advisory services to the municipal government, in which the accused then held the position of chief officer.
