Florida, United States.- The man arrested on suspicion of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump in Florida did not fire his weapon, either at the former Republican president or at security agents, the US Secret Service reported on Monday.
“He did not fire any shots or discharge any shots at our agent,” Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe told reporters, referring to suspect Ryan Routh, who has been charged with illegal firearms possession.
Rowe defended the work of all the officers involved in Routh’s arrest. “Yesterday was a confidential move, and the President wasn’t even supposed to go there, it wasn’t on his official agenda. So we put together a security plan and that security plan worked perfectly,” he said.
The US Federal Police (FBI) is interviewing several agents who were at the golf club, seven witnesses and relatives, as well as friends and former colleagues of the suspect to obtain more information about him.
“The level of security at Mar-a-Lago is as high as it gets,” Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said of Trump’s Florida residence.
