The Russian Ministry of Health has ordered women to give birth in a new way
The Russian Ministry of Health has ordered women to give birth in a new way. New clinical recommendations for cesarean sections and natural childbirth, approved by the department, will come into effect on January 1, 2025, writes “Parliamentary newspaper”.
“The document describes the doctor’s actions in diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of diseases, helps to make the right decisions and defines the indicators of the quality of medical care. The recommendations are based on proven clinical experience, which means that they need to be updated periodically,” noted the head of the outpatient department of the Moscow Regional Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Doctor of Medical Sciences Vera Balan.
Thus, one of the sections of the updated document suggests new rules for pain relief for women in labor. As before, Russian women are advised to first use non-drug pain relief methods such as breathing techniques, massage or warm compresses. But if they prove ineffective, then the doctor will have to prescribe drug pain relief, and the new document specifies which ones and in what doses.
In addition, the procedure for monitoring a woman in labor will change. In particular, during the active phase of the first stage of labor, the woman’s body temperature will have to be measured twice as often – every hour.
Another section concerns caesarean section. The document added congenital anomalies of the uterus and unstable position of the fetus to the list of conditions in which childbirth with surgical intervention will take place taking into account the new recommendations. For the mothers themselves, nothing will change in this regard – the indications for caesarean section will remain the same: the operation will be performed on a planned basis if the child weighs more than 4.5 kilograms or the mother has already had surgical interventions on the uterus.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health approved new clinical guidelines for abortion, which contain information on performing an ultrasound, during which a woman will see the fetus and hear its heartbeat.
