Pasta, chips or burgers – the main thing is to eat a lot. The YouTuber “Nikocado Avocado” is known for his heavy eating binges. He is unrecognizable in his latest clip.
Kassel – Food is Nicholas Perry’s trademark. Under the pseudonym “Nikocado Avocado” he stuffs himself with huge amounts of food and films himself doing so. Millions of people watch the 32-year-old do it. After a long break, he is now back with a surprise.
Millions of people follow him: YouTuber films himself eating
The trend that also made the American famous is called “Mok-Bang” and goes back to a phenomenon from South Korea in the 2010s. In videos lasting up to an hour, the formerly overweight influencer with over four million subscribers shows himself preparing the food, calculating the calories and then eating it.
Healthy food rarely ends up on his plate; the dishes are usually rich, spicy and fatty. He often sets himself challenges, such as eating cheese nachos that weigh up to 10,000 calories.
This is what lies behind the eating video trend
The term “Mok-Bang”, or “Meokbang”, is made up of the two Korean words “meokneun” for “eat” and “bangsong” (figurative). The videos were originally intended to counteract feelings of loneliness and isolation. In Korea, eating is considered a sociable and social activity, but social changes have led to more people living alone – and eating alone. The Federal Center for Nutrition (BzfE) warns about the effects of Mok-Bang videos: Studies have shown that regular consumption increases the likelihood of a permanently unhealthy diet.

“Two steps ahead”: Food influencer surprises with new figure
But then things went quiet for a while around Nicholas Perry. Not only is the month-long break noticeable, but the title of the latest video is also out of line. “Two steps ahead” is the name of the roughly 25-minute clip, in which a slim figure with a plush panda head can be seen saying: “Today I woke up from a very long dream.” He has lost 250 pounds, or 113 kilos. “That was the biggest social experiment of my life,” he says. Then he takes off his head and shows his new face.
The influencer is unrecognizable. He doesn’t reveal how he lost the weight. Instead, after a long philosophical monologue, he starts eating properly again. In the comments, users celebrate the influencer’s surprising return, but also puzzle over the title and the drastic weight loss in such a short time.
Overweight YouTuber loses weight radically – and leaves fans speculating
Losing over 100 kilos in seven months would probably be considered as extreme and unhealthy as consuming several thousand calories in less than an hour. According to nutrition experts at Techniker Krankenkasse, it is possible to lose about half a kilo per week in a healthy way. However: “A sustainable change in diet should be the priority, not a radical crash diet.”
Some users speculate that “Nikocado Avocado” actually recorded many of his videos in advance and then released them at different times. This would have given him significantly more time to lose weight. “For those who don’t know, he was on a two-year diet, not just seven months,” one person writes in the comments.
Whether this is true is unclear, but it would be a much healthier way to lose weight. Losing weight too quickly can lead to dangerous deficiencies of important nutrients in the body, writes the German Heart Foundation. There is also a risk that muscles will be broken down instead of fat. Federal Center for Nutrition (BzfE) recommends patience and smaller steps when losing weight.
