Osasco (SP) councilwoman and municipal president of the Liberal Party (PL), Ana Paula Rossi, passed away this Sunday, the 8th, due to complications from cancer treatment. The information was confirmed by a note published on the councilwoman’s social media.
Ana Paula was Secretary of Social Welfare and Promotion for the city of Greater São Paulo in 2003, 2005 and 2006. She was the daughter of former mayor Francisco Rossi. The councilwoman was in her third term in the City Council and was campaigning for reelection in the October election.
The councilwoman had been treating cancer that affects the lymphatic system since the beginning of July. At 55 years old, Ana Paula leaves behind a husband and three children.
In her political history, she ran for city councilor in 2004, for the PHS, but was not elected. In the following election, in 2008, for the PMDB, she won her first term. Two years later, in 2010, also for the PMDB, she ran for state deputy, but was not elected. In 2012, she ran for vice mayor of Osasco for the PSDB, on the ticket of then party member Celso Giglio. She finished in second place.
In 2014, she ran for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) once again and ended up as an alternate for the PR. Two years later, in the 2016 elections, she won her second term in the Osasco City Council, also for the PR. According to the councilwoman’s page on the City Council’s website, between 2021 and 2023 she was the first female government leader and her main agendas were the defense of women, education and family.
The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), offered his condolences on his Instagram profile on the morning of Monday, the 9th, stating that the councilwoman was present at “every visit and every delivery in the city”.
“We woke up to the sad news that Councilwoman Ana Paula Rossi has left us. Also president of the Osasco PL, Ana Paula was always with us on every visit and every delivery in the city, and her love and dedication to the people and her work were visible. May God comfort the hearts of all her family and friends at this difficult time,” wrote the governor.
Former First Lady and National President of PL Mulher, Michelle Bolsonaro, also posted a note of condolence on Instagram, saying that she will pray “for God to comfort the hearts of family members, relatives and friends so that they can overcome this difficult time with peace and serenity.” In the councilwoman’s social media profile photo, Ana Paula appears in a montage with Michelle.
The councilwoman’s wake will take place this Monday, the 9th, from 8 am to 4 pm, at the Osasco Municipal Theater, and the burial will be at the Bela Vista Cemetery, at 5 pm, Ana Paula’s team reported on social media.
