A serious accident occurred on the Fernpass road in Tyrol: an Austrian died because he made a fatal mistake. Two Germans were seriously injured.
Lermoos – The Fernpass federal road in Tyrol (B 179) between Reutte and Imst is one of the most important transit routes for holidaymakers from Germany on their way to the south. It can be reached from the A7, which ends in Allgäu Hamburg-Füssen, you will pass through the Tyrolean Inn Valley and can then continue to Italy via the Reschen Pass.
Serious accident: Austria tunnel at the foot of the Zugspitze is a dangerous bottleneck
In order to free the Tyrolean towns of Biberwier, Lermoos and Ehrwald at the foot of the Zugspitze from through traffic, the three-kilometer-long Lermoos Tunnel on the eastern flank of the Grubigstein (2233 meters) was built in 1984. There is only one tube, which means there is a risk of collisions that can have serious consequences. On the last weekend of the summer holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, there was heavy traffic on the transit route.
On Saturday afternoon (7 August) of all days, a serious accident occurred there: a 62-year-old man from Reutte (Tyrol) died. He was not wearing a seatbelt and drove into the tunnel wall, then collided with a car from the Schwäbisch-Hall district (Baden-Württemberg).

Its occupants – a man (56) and a woman (53) – were seriously injured, while the occupants of another car that drove into the accident scene were slightly injured. A large number of rescue workers, emergency medical helicopters, firefighters and police were deployed.
Due to the rescue and clean-up work, the Lermoos tunnel was closed from about 1:15 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. There was a traffic jam several kilometers long on the Fernpass road B179 and on the alternative route through Biberwier. The column reached a length of about 13 kilometers.
Only recently there was a terrible accident on the Brenner motorway. A coach also crashed on a Dolomite pass. Near Kitzbühel a car crashed into a packed pizzeria. Also near the luxury Tyrolean ski resort two men drove a golf cart over a pass and crashed into a wall.
