United States | A wildfire is spreading rapidly in California: 35,000 houses at risk

A thunderstorm prevented firefighting flights.

Out of control a large wildfire in California doubled in size during the night between Saturday and Sunday.

The extent of the fire raging in the San Bernardino mountains east of Los Angeles was about 70 square kilometers on Sunday and it threatened more than 35,000 houses.

Newspapers, among other things, tell about the wildfire that got the name Line Fire Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post.

Fire the cause of the fire is unknown. About 600 firefighters are fighting against it. Three firefighters have been injured.

Extinguishing works are hampered by heat. The temperature was predicted to fluctuate between about 30 and 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The heat wave is not expected to subside until Tuesday.

In addition, a thunderstorm prevented firefighting flights on Saturday evening, and the same was feared on Sunday.

“The weather doesn’t really help,” the meteorologist Dave Munyan said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The fire “now has room to grow practically in three directions, where there are population centers and fairly dense, dry vegetation between them”, climate scientist Daniel Swain from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) told The Washington Post.

The fire spread across highway 330 on Saturday.
