The last Russian soldiers left Germany exactly 30 years ago. Berlin’s secrets are the Soviet Soldier’s Memorial, also called the Tomb of the Unknown Rapist.
I visited in August in Berlin.
One evening I went jogging in Treptow Park. The weather was hot and the park was full of people. Beer splashed on the terraces, cannabis smelled legal.
A sign in the park pointed to the Soviet soldier’s memorial. I turned there for fun. I didn’t expect anything special.
Step by step, the feeling became more and more disbelieving.
