The new leader
For the first time since the Dutch Grand Prix, and especially after the injury that forced him not to take part in the weekend in Austria, To the Ogura returns to success. A special victory for the Japanese driver, who thanks to this success on the Misano Adriatico circuit becomes the new world leader of Moto2. Sergio Garcia’s 12th place allows the Japanese rider to overtake the Spaniard, creating a gap of 9 points on the latter. Ogura celebrates this result in front of Aron Canet and Tony Arbolinoon the podium after starting from pole position. A more bitter outcome for Celestine Viettiwho fell three laps from the end while he was in fourth position while trying to catch up with Arbolino.
Race report
The ‘Shark’starting from the first box on the starting grid, maintained the lead of the race at the start just ahead of Ogura and Canet, both of whom immediately attacked Vietti. Already at the end of the first lap, Alonso Lopez lost control of his bike, thus offering Ogura the chance not only to extend his lead over the Spaniard, but also to overtake the now ex-leader of the world championship Garcia, who started from 24th place on the grid and finished 12th, and therefore in the points zone. However, in the first half of the race Canet stood out, first doing well to overtake Ogura and then Arbolino, thus taking the lead of the race. The Spaniard’s leadership continued until the last four laps, with Ogura’s pace increasing until the decisive overtaking, with Arbolino remaining firmly in third position. Different story, however, for Vietti: starting from second position, the Turin native crashed three laps from the end, thus compromising any chance of a comeback to the podium zone.
