Developers at WayForward Technologies talked about How the collaboration with Nintendo for Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp came aboutthe excellent turn-based strategy game that relaunches the famous series and was released on Nintendo Switch in April last year.
“The project was born thanks to the fact that We have been talking to Nintendo for many years now“, game director James Montagna explained on a podcast. “I think it might have been the result of something like seven or eight years of, every single E3, meeting with Nintendo and talking to them about potential collaborations.”
“Every year we offered him something new. to impress them, making sure that the meeting was an opportunity to have fun together. The idea was to make sure that they could associate with us the idea of having fun, laughing and talking about video games for the art form that they really are.”
The turning point and the result
“After having this kind of interaction with Nintendo for several years, they really started to appreciate it (…) and we were happy to be able to build such a genuine connection: They are fantastic people and have a great passion for video gameswhich you can sense when you talk to him.”
“I think there was a great chemistry between us and them and the opportunity to create something together, so when they started thinking about a new Advance Wars it immediately occurred to him that we could be the right choiceand in the end we all loved this project.”
