Franco Morbidelli seems to have found a truly magical feeling with his Prima Pramac Racing Ducati during the weekend of the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini Grand Prix. After finding the front row and the podium after more than three years yesterday, the Italian rider started his Sunday in style, being the fastest in the Warm-Up.
A really solid performance considering that his 1’31″687 came with a soft tyre that had 17 laps of life. Behind him, just 38 thousandths behind, is Marc Marquez, who opens one of the themes of the day, namely the choice between the soft tyre and the medium on the rear. His Warm-Up did not start in the best way, because he stopped immediately due to an electrical anomaly, but when he got on his second GP23 of Gresini Racing he immediately found his rhythm with the medium tyre.
Among other things, both he and his brother Alex, sixth on the soft tyre, sport the now classic livery of the Misano stage that Gresini Racing dedicates to the unforgettable patron Fausto.
In third place is the winner of the Sprint Jorge Martin, who like Marquez took to the track with a medium rear tire, finishing 193 thousandths from the top. A choice shared also with Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales and Yamaha’s Fabio Quarataro, who follow in fourth and fifth place.
Following instead is a whole group of riders who have decided to work with a used soft to understand if it could be a viable choice also for the long race. Behind the aforementioned Alex Marquez is Pedro Acosta, who is the first of the KTM riders just ahead of Jack Miller.
Then come the two official Ducati riders, with Enea Bastianini and Pecco Bagnaia. The rider from Rimini also scrubbed two wet tires, because the forecast is still quite uncertain for the day. The world champion, on the other hand, did not seem too satisfied, so he probably evaluated some changes that did not yield the desired results.
The two Ducatis of Pertamina Enduro VR46 are also behind, with Fabio Di Giannantonio occupying 14th position and his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who will start again from the front row today, who is 16th. They also worked with used soft tyres, a sign that there is a strong doubt about which choice to make.
As for the Hondas, this time the best was Luca Marini, who finished with the 19th time and a gap of 1″2. For him, however, the tyre was a medium, as were his teammates Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami, who followed him in 21st and 22nd position.
