Weather|In the capital region, the night was painfully hot, but due to the rains, it was not a tropical night.
Saturday The night before was unusually warm, says the meteorologist on duty at the Finnish Meteorological Institute Cecilia Wolff.
The night was the warmest in Rukkasluodo in Rantasalmi, where the lowest reading of the night was 19 degrees. In Lappeenranta’s Hiekpakakka, the overnight reading was 18.8 degrees and at Lappeenranta Airport 18.7 degrees.
At the end of August, in the eastern parts of the country, the lowest temperatures are measured less often than once in 30 years. The same applies to Lapland last night, where, for example, the lowest temperature of the night at Kemijärvi airport was 15.5 degrees.
In the capital region the night was painfully hot until the rains arrived.
Around midnight, 23.3 degrees were measured at Helsinki’s Malmi airport and 22.2 degrees at Kumpula station, says the meteorologist on duty. Ilkka Alanko From Foreca.
“Even at 2 o’clock in the morning, there were temperatures of around 20 degrees across the country, from Uusimaa to Southeast Finland,” says Alanko.
However, the rains that came ashore after this caused the lowest readings to even drop below 14 degrees in Helsinki. Thus, it was not a tropical night that required the temperature not to fall below 20 degrees between 9:00 PM and 9:00 AM.
A hot night was preceded by a hot day. On Friday, almost the entire country had a warmer day than usual. The warmest reading of the day was 27 degrees measured at the measuring station in Salo Kärkä.
