Deputy Chepa called for creating buffer zones in response to the attack on Belgorod
After the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strike on Belgorod, Russia should create buffer zones as soon as possible, says Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he spoke about the response to this attack.
Ukrainian troops are deliberately shooting at residential areas. The aim of these attacks is to destabilize the situation in the country
“We must respond by creating buffer zones as quickly as possible, as the president spoke about. This is in order to protect the Belgorod Region, the Kursk Region, and the Bryansk Region. This buffer zone, in my opinion, should cover the entire left bank of the Dnieper,” the deputy said.
On Friday evening, August 30, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled Belgorod and the Belgorod region, the region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported. According to him, Ukrainian forces used cluster munitions from the Vampire multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). Five people were killed in the attack, 46 were injured.
Three apartment buildings, a school, a kindergarten and two stores were damaged by explosions in the city. In the village of Dubovoye in the Belgorod district, 13 cars were damaged, and two houses, a car and a garage also caught fire.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to create a buffer or sanitary zone in May. He used these intentions to explain the offensive in the Kharkiv region. In his opinion, such a territory would allow Russian residential facilities to be distanced from attacks from the Ukrainian side and would protect Russian citizens.
