Citizenship, Rampelli (FdI) to Affaritaliani.it: “The Ius Soli proposed by the opposition is an absolute nonsense”
“Let’s start from a premise: the current law allows the naturalization of over 200 thousand foreigners per year. A significant number, therefore it works”, he states to Affaritaliani.it Fabio Rampellivice president of the Chamber and exponent of Fratelli d’Italia interviewed on citizenship for foreigners and on Forza Italia’s openness to Ius Scholae. “Every law can be improved, but I don’t think there is a national emergency in this sense. There is only the usual prejudicial clash between the delirious positions of the left and the government”.
“The Ius Soli proposed by the opposition is an absolute nonsense because it certifies citizenship as a bureaucratic fact, not as a conscious choice. Moreover, imposing it on unborn children with foreign parents who, if they wanted, as adults could prefer the citizenship of their origins. A wrong and arbitrary act, almost violent”.
That said, Rampelli adds: “The so-called Ius Scholae does not seem very far from the current law. It corrects an anomaly on minors that penalizes them today. In fact, adults can apply for Italian citizenship after 10 years of continuous residence, children born in Italy must wait 18. But a more reasonable wait, accompanied by an emphasis on the procedure for becoming Italian (one must become one by will, not by administrative practice, by stumble or by interest) and by certain methods for revocation does not call into question the current system”.
“The pedestrian arguments of the supporters of Ius Soli (accidental citizenship), the use of dialects, the support for national football teams clash with the solemn principle of wanting to adhere to the ‘secular religion’ represented by our Constitution. We need to welcome those who truly want to integratewho loves Italy and adheres to the model of Western civilization and reject those who believe in female segregation, in the burka, in anti-Semitism, in theocracy”, concludes Rampelli.
Tajani: “On Ius Scholae I do not impose but I do not want impositions”
On the ius scholae we have “our opinion, as on other points that are not in the government program and that are underlined by other allies: we talk about it. However, it is not that because a topic is not in the government program we cannot talk about it. Everyone has the right to say: I do not impose anything on anyone, but I do not want anyone to impose anything on me either, so I am free to speak”. This was said by the Deputy Prime Minister, leader of Forza Italia and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, arriving at the Rimini Meeting, Antonio Tajani.
On the topic of citizenship, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani explained, “we have our ideas, I don’t argue” with other centre-right groups. “We started out differently, otherwise we would be a single party. We are for the government program and what binds us is the program. As for the Ius Scholae, it is not part of the government program, so we can express our opinion, we will also talk about it with our allies”, concluded the Deputy Prime Minister, leader of Forza Italia and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.
