Mexico City.- The Mexican was unable to lift the 92 kilograms in her first attempt, but managed to recover in the second and completed the Snatch phase after lifting 95 kilos. Later in the Clean and Jerk round, Gómez completed her three attempts of 114, 119 and 122 kg respectively to add up to 217 kilos.
During the Snatch, the Olympic record was broken four times, before the competition the mark had been set at 103 kg. Kamila Konotop from Ukraine was the first to break it with 104, Canadian Maude Charron caught up with her in her next lift, but Chinese Shifang Luo surpassed them by lifting 105 and then 107 kg, which was the new record of the summer competition.
In the Clean and Jerk, Luo also set a new Olympic record by lifting 134kg on her second attempt, which was enough to take home the Gold, while Charron took home the Silver and Chun-Hsing Kuo, the current world record holder, took home the Bronze.
